Donald Mineral Sands Project

Astron, through its wholly-owned subsidiary company Donald Mineral Sands Pty Ltd (DMS), is proposing to mine mineral sands in the Donald, Minyip and Rupanyup areas. Government approval of the proposed Donald Mineral Sands Project is dependent on the outcome of an Environment Effects Statement, which is currently underway.

Astron is proposing to mine up to 7.5 million tonnes per annum, producing 500,000 tonnes per annum of heavy mineral concentrate for export to China, through the Donald Mineral Sands Project.

The Donald Mineral Sands Project is the world’s largest undeveloped zircon project and new technologies developed for Astron have resolved technical challenges faced by previous investigations. Minerals will be processed by conventional methods, processing the material to a wet concentrate and exporting the concentrate to China for further more refined processing and product manufacture.

Donald Mineral Sands Pty Limited (DMS) is a 100% subsidiary of Astron Limited (ASX:ATR) and was formed after the successful acquisition of Zirtanium Limited during 2004.

DMS owns the exploration rights to the very large WIM-style mineral sands deposits, Donald and Jackson, located 240km northwest of Melbourne and 66km northeast of Horsham. DMS has delineated an area for development of the Donald Mineral Sands Project and is in the process of performing the required metallurgical, engineering and environmental studies to develop a large, low-cost and long-life mineral sands operation.
