Board of Directors

The Astron board of directors comprise the following:

Mr Gerard King, LLB Chairman Board member since 1985

Mr King is a former partner of law firm Phillips Fox and has over 30 years experience in corporate and business advising including acting as a director of a number of Australian Public companies and trusts including the Rural Property Trust, Australasian Shopping Centres Property Trust (1977-1980) and Australian Mining Investments Ltd (1983-2002). Mr King is also current chairman for the St John Council of WA.

Mr Alexander Brown, B. AgSc (Managing Director) Executive Director Board member since 1988

Mr Brown has wide commercial experience of over 30 years in construction, mining and exploration including developing Horshoe Lights gold mine at Meekathara WA, expanding Gunnedah Coal mine in NSW and successfully drilling for oil and gas in Thailand and USA.

In 1987, he started with others a successful plastic pipe company Europipe Sdn Bhd Malasia, which manufactures and distributes its products throughout Asia.

Over the last 20 years Mr Brown has focused his activities on the successful development of Astron businesses in China.

Mr Robert Flew, B Ec (Hons) Non- Executive Director Board member since 2004

Mr Flew has more than 36 years experience in the resource sector, with experience including holding the positions of Company Secretary and Vice President Investor Relations of BHP, the Group General Manager of Corporate Development BHP Copper, Group General Manager of International BHP and Group General Manager of BHP’s coal business in Queensland.

Mr Flew is currently a director of Thiess Pty Limited, Bass Strait Oil Co Limited, MPI Mines Limited and Geodynamics Limited.

Madam Kang Rong, B.E Chem Executive Director Vice General Manager Board member since August 2006

Madam Kang Rong is Astron’s Vice General Manager based in China. She joined Astron in 1992 as a Chinese marketing manager and was appointed to the Astron Board on August 21, 2006. Since 1992 she has overseen Astron’s operations and global sales and has been largely responsible for the growth and development of the company.

Mr Ronald McCullough, B Eng, MBA Non-Executive Director

Mr McCullough is a former General Manager of Gunnedah Coal Company Ltd (GCC) in the northern Hunter Valley of NSW, a position he held from 1981-1996. He was appointed to the Astron Board on August 21, 2006. Mr McCullough has a wealth of experience in the mining industry and in setting up new operations. He is on the boards of Gunnedah Coal Company and Oakbridge Limited – a coal mining company owned by a consortium of Xstrata, Nippon Oil Australia Pty Ltd and Toyota Tusho Corporation.
